Buying less is the first step in sustainable fashion
This course will encourage you to see the potential in the clothes that you already own: styling them in a different way, updating them with simple adjustments or making something entirely new from the lovely fabric of a no longer wearable garment.

You will learn thrifting and garment construction techniques to revitalise your pre-owned clothing.

Using darts, hemming and the art of buttonholes, you’ll become adept at restyling and updating individual pieces, giving them a whole new look and life for new wearability.

Repair your pre-loved garments and explore decorative stitch techniques such as applique to creatively enhance your garments.

During this 8-week course, learners will be encouraged to re-style an existing garment and make a new item, such as a simple top or bag from an existing garment.
- During weeks 1-4, learners will practice construction skills such as darting, zip insertion, geeted pockets and hemming.
- Weeks 5-8 will focus on decorative skills such as appliqué, machine embroidery and fabric manipulation.

Basic sewing skills and knowledge of how to use a sewing machine essential.

There will be no class during the week of mid-term break: Tuesday 18 February.
