Course: Jewellery Making (Advanced)
Category: Hobby & Special Interest
Description:
Approx. Start Date: Tuesday 04 February 2025

(Applicants will receive confirmation of actual start date by text)

In response to interest from the many students who have already taken the beginners course in jewellery making, we are delighted to offer a follow-on course with the same tutor. Hannah has designed an eight-week course that will advance your skills into new areas.

Week 1: Introduction to class and overview of course. Design post wax pendant. Start lost wax pendant

Week 2: Finish lost wax pendant using carving tools, files and sand paper.

Week 3: Look at different examples of polymer clay jewellery and how cookie cutters, shapers, texture sheets and clay work together. Design and make simple earrings, pendants and beads. Design and make a more detailed sculptural piece of your choice. These will all be cured by the tutor in time for the following week's class.

Week 4: Finish all polymer pieces. They will be cured and ready to be put together into final pieces. This will bring back a lot of aspects of the beginner course, for example, using pliers and jewellery findings to finish pieces.

Week 5: Talk through what silver clay is, how it’s used for the best outcome and start your design. Students will use air dry clay to practice their work. If they make anything they love from air dry clay that would be difficult to replicate they will make a mould out of it.

Week 6: Each student will get 10 grams of silver clay, and carving and sculpting tools to create anything using silver clay. They will go off their designs and practice pieces that they did the previous week with air dry clay. These will be fired by the tutor before the following week's class.

Week 7: Polishing and mounting all silver clay pieces onto necklaces or earrings. Silver pendant casts will be back and students will start work on sanding them.

Week 8: Polishing silver pendants

The course fee excludes the cost of materials required to make the items you will be working on in class. Information to be provided to applicants on the relevant materials (lost wax casting, all polymer clay, all jewellery findings, 10 grams of silver clay, chains, etc.) you will need to complete the projects and cost of same. The tutor will also provide guidance on the relevant tools and equipment you may wish to purchase.  which can be purchased from the tutor.
