This course in basic carpentry will provide you with the key skills required to complete some simple home DIY tasks. You'll also learn the key health and safety points in relation to DIY and working with woodwork equipment.

Throughout the eight weeks, we will use a variety of equipment typical to woodworking, including both hand and power tools.

This course will teach you the skills while you work on a series of practical projects that you can bring how with you, for example, a chopping board, a shoe rack and a framed clock. You will learn:
  • Safety precisions to be considered when woodworking
  • How to accurately measure using a measuring tape and ruler
  • How to use both hand tools and machines with precision
  • Identify and manufacture different wood joints
  • The different characteristics of species
  • How to identify different species of wood
  • Different finishes which can be applied to wood.
The course fee includes the cost of materials required to make the items you'll be working on in class.
