This two year QQI Level 5 Major Award is ideal for those beginning a professional career in the early years sector, working directly with children aged 0 to 6. Whether you're new to childcare or seeking a formal qualification, the course provides the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to work as an Early Years Educator.

Developed in line with QQI professional standards, the programme balances theory and hands on practice, focusing on the holistic wellbeing, development, and learning of young children in a variety of early learning settings.

The course runs over two academic years, with classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6.00pm to 9.30pm, starting in September 2025 and finishing in May 2026 (midterm and holiday breaks observed). Learners complete three core modules in the first year, including 75 hours of placement in an afterschool service. The remaining three modules are completed in Year 2 (Sept 2026 to May 2027), leading to the full QQI Major Award.

Throughout the programme, learners explore child development, play based learning, curriculum planning, and the role of the Early Years Educator, while developing the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high quality childcare environment.
