This course invites learners to immerse themselves in a wide range of literary texts across genres, time periods and cultural contexts. Through discussion, analysis, and research, you will develop the confidence to interpret literature with a critical eye and explore the impact of social, historical and cultural influences on literary movements.

You will be introduced to key works from the English literature canon and apply critical frameworks, including feminist, Marxist, and psychoanalytical theory, to deepen your understanding of genre, form, and narrative style. You will also learn how different readers create different meanings and how to challenge assumed understandings or cultural bias in literary texts.
