This course offers learners the opportunity to explore Ireland's rich local history through hands-on research and critical investigation. You will gain the skills to identify, access, and interpret both primary and secondary sources, including census records, photographs, oral histories, newspapers, and archival materials.

Learners will develop their ability to research and present a local person, place, or event in a structured and meaningful way. The course also introduces key historical methods, the role of the local historian, and the broader cultural, political, and social context in which local history is situated.

Ideal for those interested in genealogy, heritage, museum work, or community-based research, this module supports both academic and personal exploration. Fieldwork, archive visits, and independent projects are central to the learning experience.

Completing this course leads to a QQI Level 5 Minor Award in Local History and provides a strong foundation for further study or voluntary roles in the heritage and cultural sectors.
